After getting acquainted, the orthodontist will examine your child’s teeth, tongue and lips, face muscles, and speech. He can usually tell at the first examination if there is a problem that should be treated, approximately how much of an investment will be involved.
However, before making a final determination, we will need x-rays of the teeth and head, photographs, and impressions of the teeth for making study models. These “diagnostic aids,” as they are called, then become the textbook of your child’s case. After studying them, the orthodontist can tell more accurately what result to expect. Sometime diagnostic aids can be prepared on the first visit.
